Diabetic patients on alert in Covid-19 pandemic
Diabetes, one of the most prevalent chronic disease in India. According
to a recent survey brought to the fore that sugar levels of diabetic persons
were found to be increased by 20% during nationwide lock down.
Lock down not only has deleterious
effects on metabolic control of the diabetes but also reduced opportunities for exercise & disruption
of the regular medical care. Even after lock down
was lifted, many people remained confined within their home.
So how this has effected?
1.
Lockdown
has turned many into home bakers leading to increased intake of sweets which is
one of the most contributing factor for rise of blood sugar levels
2. Lockdown has also curbed our physical activity thus leading to a
rise in a sedentary lifestyle.
3.
Anxiety &
stress has been on the rise during these uncertain times leading to release of stress hormone known as
cortisol which in turn created more problems for diabetics.
So following
unhealthy eating habits coupled with an inactive lifestyle can have lasting
consequences in the long run.
Lock down or not, it's vital to follow a healthy lifestyle to
stay fit as well as fight off health issues pertaining to stress, blood sugar
flare-up or obesity, monitor your levels and do not forget to take your
medications.
